Leon Chmielewski lives and maintains his studio in Madison, CT.

He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education and a Master’s in Painting. He taught drawing and painting at Stamford High School and for five years was an art teacher at Westhill High School, where he was also head of the art department. He also taught drawing at Norwalk Community College for nine years.

Critics have called Chmielewski an intellectual colorist. His lyrical paintings represent his impressions of the countryside and seashore, while the color in his abstract paintings is bold and strong.

Lee has studied with Sonia Getchtoff, Richard Pousette-Dart and Regis Brodie. He has had numerous one-man exhibitions. In 2017, he received the “Best in Show” award from the annual Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts at the Mystic Museum of Art. His work is represented in the U.S., Iceland, and Sweden, and in the corporate collections of IBM and Apple. He received two Painting Fellowships from Skidmore College.
